I received an email today from fellow Indianapolis Blogger Bnpositive, asking if I would be willing to help draw some attention to what has happened in the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township. I had no idea what this was about, but after reading up on it a bit, I am more than happy to let others know about what is going on. Although it doesn't directly effect me, this kind of stuff disgusts me.
Mostly, I will just direct you to articles and websites that will give you all the information you need to know, but just to pique your interest, here's what happened. Four of the seven members on the Perry Township School Board decided to place Superintendent Doug Williams on leave, with the intent to fire him. The other three members of the board were not aware of this decision until the morning of the meeting that ousted Wiliams.
Williams won the Indiana School Superintendent of the Year award in 2003, and is a proven superintendent. The members who voted him out, cite "questionable spending" as a reason for his removal. Although, removing him will cost the taxpayers a considerable amount of money. He is currently under a three year contract and has been offered a buyout. Questionable spending indeed.
I'm not sure if he deserves to be removed or not, the fact is, there aren't enough facts. And those who support the decision to remove Williams, don't seem to want to talk about it. I don't know what we can do at this point, I just hate hearing about stuff like this and thought I would do what I could to at least bring people's attention to it. Below are a few links worth checking out if you are interested in learning more.
Citizens in Support of Dr. Williams: Despite the title, this site remains fairly impartial, just looking for facts and providing a forum for those in support or against Dr. Williams. All other links I provide are also on this site and it is a good place to start if you want to get a lot of background and see where things currently stand.

Thanks for your assistance and help in spreading the news about what's taking place. For any of your readers that are not a part of township, I just encouarge everyone to take this situation as a reminder to stay involved with their local elections and specifically school boards. We can't continue to complain about the state of education in America when we don't even know what's going on in our local schools.
I am a past student and concerned member of the community over this situation. I am in support of the three that understands and recognized what is best for the township. Although I don't agree with the four that voted against Williams, I think that the actions by some of the supporters for Wiliams is distastefull.
as the parent of a special needs child in perry township I am always told there is not enough money for the services that my child should recieve and then i see the township spend that kind of money for personal reasons of revenge, outrage is the only thing i can think of not only at these "publie open meetings" will no one answer your questions they also don't feel they need to respond to your questions at all.
as a taxpayer I will make sure my vote goes where needed because i have to look out for my childs education because the school board sure doesn"t
Maybe the board can tell me where the money for my autistic son goes.as far as i'm concerned the edison schools have been a god send for him. I hope Williams gets eveything he wants in life because of his open mind with edison my son is getting a better education and structure. Maybe if we had people on the board that actually lived in Perry Township they could be around more to understand what we really want.
Thank you for this sight!! Alot of things should be brought up about this school district. Why is it so hard to get a response to what I understand is suppose to be public open records? If this board does nothing wrong as they say then why can we not see the documents. I am sure that Mr. Williams woundn't mind.
Is this the same school board that ousted a teacher for teaching a book that they didn't agree with after 149 out of 150 parents agreed to allow their children to read it. Indeed something is rotten in this school board if I'm hearing about it. I'm from a state that isn't even very close to Indiana. Sounds to me like a lot of the members are much more interested in politics than actually the welfare of the students.
Nobody's posting information about Dr. Williams facing charges. Hmm?
