"The Curse of the Bambino"

Now I have a topic of conversation for the very few readers who may be out there:

Last night while watching the game, I was frequently knocking on wood after saying things like, "Yes, that should do it" and "They'll for sure win now." And then there's all this talk about "the Curse of the Bambino." So I thought since Halloween's around the corner, and somehow that relates to the topic, we could see how many crazy superstitions we can come up with. I don't know many, but I'll get the obvious one's out of the way: black cat, walking under a ladder, the number 13 (why is that?), walking while chewing gum. If you could do some research and tell us how these superstitions came about, that would be great too. I apologize if nobody responds, I don't exactly have a following for this blog.

Here are some superstitions about beds:
It's bad luck to put a hat on a bed.

If you make a bedspread, or a quilt, be sure to finish it or marriage will never come to you

Placing a bed facing north and south brings misfortune.

You must get out of bed on the same side that you get in or you will have bad luck.

If you say good-bye to a friend on a bridge, you will never see each other again.

Just found another interesting tidbit...

FRIDAY THE 13TH - how is fear of the number thirteen demonstarted?

More than 80 percent of high-rises lack a 13th floor.
Many airports skip the 13th gate.
Airplanes have no 13th aisle.
Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13.
Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery.
On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 and a half.
Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue
In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
Many triskaidekaphobes, as those who fear the unlucky integer are known, point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.
If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck . Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names.

If a blackbird gets in your house then it's suppose to mean that a death is about to visit you, or someone you know. I have a someone in my family that says someone died they knew after a such said bird flew in their house.
In a rural county in Kentucky, I have family there, they hold their breath while passing a graveyard.
Of course there's the whole, if you break a mirror you'll have so many years bad luck.

Hey, thanks to all who responded. I just heard another one today--I guess it's bad luck if you kill a ladybug? If that's true, Hownpop's in trouble.
